Essential Responsibilities: 
  • Provide transportation to and/or from one destination to another when requested by the client/participant.
  • Transportation services should include assistance with transfer from the senior’s home/facility to the vehicle.
  • Physically assists elderly into and out of the transportation vehicle.
  • Maintains transportation vehicle in efficient operating conditions, making minor mechanical checks and adjustments such as replenishing gas, tire pressure and windshield washer fluid.
  • May perform minor repairs such as adjusting or replacing windshield wipers or blades and boosting batteries in emergencies with authorization from the Senior Outreach Coordinator.
  • Report to the Senior Outreach Coordinator any damage or abuse, need for maintenance or repair, or signs of deterioration of transportation vehicle
  • Keep outside and inside of transportation vehicle clean.  The inside of the vehicle is to be neat and orderly, sweeping and cleaning it between regular care and washing seats or mopping down inside of vehicle as required for sanitation and cleanliness.
  • Ability and knowledge in operating a wheelchair lift.
  • Prepares daily reports indicating passengers, destinations and departure and arrival time.  Documentation should be neat and legible.
  • Work within assigned schedules.  The supervisor must approve all overtime and/or extra time.  Overtime will not be granted if the routes are not executed in an appropriate and efficient manner.    
  • Makes sure that all of the clients are accounted for before departing from one destination to another.  
  • Drivers should not receive any traffic or moving violations.  All traffic and or moving violations will be the responsibility of the driver.  
  • Drivers are not to be message carriers between the Village and the caregivers.  Caregivers need to be reminded to call the Senior Outreach Coordinator or Outreach and Day Services Director with any comments, questions or concerns.
  • Other duties, as assigned.  

Essential Requirements:

Before providing the first service, the driver shall:
  • Hold a current, valid driver’s license for at least two years.  Hold any driver’s license endorsement that is necessary to operate the type of vehicle used for service.  And have fewer than 3 points issued under Chapter 4506 or 4507 of the Ohio Revised Code.
  • Obtain a signed statement from a licensed physician stating that the driver has no medical or physical condition that may impair safe driving, passenger assistance, emergency treatment, or the health and welfare of a consumer or the general public.
  • Pass drug and alcohol tests.
  • Pass a training course in first aid and CPR.
  • Possess the ability to understand written and oral instructions.
  • Possess the ability to comply with the minimum requirements for a non-emergency medical transportation service.
  • Possess the ability to comply with documentation requirements and “Pre-Trip Vehicle Inspection” requirements.
No later than 6 months after a driver has been hired, the driver shall:
  • Complete a defensive-driving course sponsored or endorsed by the National Safety Council or the Ohio Department of Transportation.
  • Complete an introductory course approved by ODA on passenger assistance training.
